This seems to be a problem with drunk drivers over the past 8 years. Out
of 5 arrests, they all occurred speeding on the Kennedy Expressway. Ironically,
out of those arrests, two took place this past month. It was the second
arrest this month that really has turned heads. Illinois State Police
rushed to stop a suspected drunk driver speeding the wrong way on the
heavily trafficked Kennedy Expressway.
Unbelievably and thankfully the other early-morning drivers were aware
of the speed demon, as to there were no casualties or injuries. The driver
was stopped at about 1:45 a.m., after speeding down the Kennedy Expressway.
The Illinois State Police were able to catch the culprit near the Irving
Park exit according to authorities. It was Master Sargeant Joseph Stangl
who had been following the drunk driver traveling inbound on the Kennedy's
Through this process the motorist barely missed striking a state police
squad car that was in the process of making an entirely different traffic
violation stop near Kostner Avenue.The state trooper was pulling the other
motorist over to the curb whom he finally curbed to the left shoulder
of the road. During this process, the trooper quickly noticed that there
was a speeding vehicle headed right towards them.
Eventually, the wrong-way driver slowed down, but continued driving inbound
simply swerving around the trooper and the trooper automobile! The trooper,
Mark Hall, quickly pulled a U-turn safely and stopped the driver. The
driver was then stopped and arrested with suspicions of driving under
