Penalties for Arson

Aggravated Arson

There are some cases of arson which are more serious, termed "aggravated arson." These are cases in which a structure is knowingly damaged when the perpetrator should have known that people may be present in the structure, or if any person suffers injury, permanent disability or disfigurement, or in cases in which a fireman, policeman or similar public servant is injured while performing their duties as a result of the act of arson. This is a Class X felony, with a mandatory prison sentence. If convicted, you will not avoid spending a minimum of 6 years in state prison, and the potential for serving 30 years is very possible.
